3 Habits I swear by for healthy summer skin & hair…
New to skincare and hair care and want to glow up your beauty habits? Here’s 3 easy tips I swear by to keep my hair and skin healthy in the summer season … easy changes for big results!
Using a gentle BHA cleanser in hot weather to clear pores. The combo of make up + increased sweat & humidity is easily clarified and dissolved by a gentle natural BHA like willow bark or salicylic acid.
1. Oily & dry skin both can benefit from gentle wash off BHA products for its pore clarifying properties - I have combo skin and use my soap 3-4x a week on face, & on neck chest/back in shower after workouts & dance shows. I love using our Clareza soap, and can be used on all skin types daily without drying. Its clarifying properties come from skin soothing blue tansy and zinc. The small amount of naturally ocurring BHA comes from calming willow bark to clear pores but not strip skin. I'm currently using it 3-4x a week in alternation with the sol soap, for its brightening and anti-aging properties.
2. Sunscreen and antioxidants daily for face & body
Sunscreen is important year round, but we have a lot more exposed skin & sun exposure in summer. Even driving and running errands. I always advise to incorporate sunscreen into your morning routine to protect from harmful uva/uvb rays.
Antioxidants are also important year round, as they screen free radicals from pollution that cause oxidative stress and aging in skin. I love using both antioxidant face AND body products like our oils for their age and dark spot preventing benefits. 3. For healthy summer hair + reducing damage:
- Always wash & condition hair right before swimming & Use a nourishing hair oil to lock in the fresh water. Hair can only hold so much water, This reduces the absorption of chlorinated water
- Use silk pillow cases to offset frizz
- Using silky & soft scrunchies instead of elastics to prevent breakage, as we wear our up more often in the heat - we love the scrunchies from Latina owned small business Hello Updo!
- Clarifying shampoo every 2 weeks for healthy scalp & product/chlorine build up
